Carrier Types

Open vs Enclosed Car Carrier — Which Should You Pick

Two ways to move a car across Pakistan. Here's when the closed container is worth the extra rupees — and when it's money down the drain.

Enclosed car carrier trailer in Pakistan

Most people booking car transport in Pakistan have never seen the inside of a carrier yard, so the choice between an open trailer and a closed container feels like a guess. It isn't. After shifting thousands of cars on the Karachi–Lahore and Islamabad–Karachi corridors since 2014, we can tell you plainly: for nine out of ten vehicles, open is the right call.

But there's that tenth car — the one where a single scratch means a fight with the insurer. This guide explains both options without the sales spin, so you can decide with your own eyes. You can read the broader service details on our enclosed car carrier in Pakistan page.

Open Carrier — The Workhorse

A double-decker trailer with your car strapped to the deck, exposed to the sky.

  • Cheapest option — the base rate on any route
  • Faster to book; most trailers on the road are open
  • Carries 7–10 cars per trip, so more departure slots
  • Exposed to dust, rain, and the occasional stone chip

Enclosed Carrier — The Vault

A hard-sided container or box trailer, fully shut from the weather.

  • Shields the car from monsoon rain, dust, and grit
  • Fewer cars per load — more careful individual tie-down
  • Suited to non-runners via winch loading
  • Costs roughly 30–60% more than the open rate

Pick Open If…

It's a daily driver, a Corolla, a Cultus, a family SUV, or anything you'd park outside in DHA or Bahria anyway. The small risk of dust on the paint is far outweighed by the lower bilty and the quicker pickup. Most of our Islamabad-to-Karachi loads run open, and damage claims are rare.

Pick Enclosed If…

The car is a low-clearance sports car, a classic, an exotic, or freshly detailed and worth protecting. Monsoon runs from July to September are the clearest case — an open trailer through a Sindh downpour is no place for concours paint. Enclosed also suits a non-running vehicle that needs winching.

The Cost Reality

Enclosed isn't double the price — it's a premium, typically 30 to 60 percent above open on the same corridor. We publish transparent brackets on our enclosed car transport charges page, and we'll tell you honestly when open is good enough. We'd rather keep your trust than upsell a container you don't need.

A Note on Bikes

Motorcycles travel happily on either carrier. On an open trailer we crate and strap them; in an enclosed box they ride padded alongside the cars. See the motorcycle transport service for how we tie them down.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is enclosed car carrier worth it for a normal car?

Usually not. For a daily driver or a standard family sedan, an open carrier is safe, cheaper, and faster to book. Reserve enclosed trailers for vehicles where paint, body kit, or resale value makes weather exposure a real concern.

How much more expensive is enclosed transport in Pakistan?

Expect roughly 30 to 60 percent above the open-carrier rate on the same route. The premium covers fewer vehicles per load, more careful tie-down, and the closed container itself.

Which cars should never go on an open carrier?

Low-clearance sports cars, classics, exotics, and anything with fresh or concours paint. Open trailers expose them to road grit and monsoon rain that can undo a detail job in one trip.

Can an enclosed carrier carry a non-running car or a bike?

Yes. Enclosed trailers use winch and soft-strap systems suited to non-runners, and they comfortably take motorcycles alongside cars with extra padding.

Is enclosed transport more insured than open?

The insurance value is set by the declared vehicle worth, not the trailer type. Enclosed simply reduces the chance of a claim because the car is shielded from the elements.
